Hello Everyone, I have been lurking here for about two months and have learned a wealth of information.... I thought I would "ask the experts" or the people who have the practical experience....I have 3 acres with 1/2 acre in trees. I will be building a house on this lot in about 20-28 months. Primary use now would be mowing and landscaping later. So here is my delima:I have the following quotes from local dealers....1. JD4100HST with 54" belly mower. $12,9002. NH21D with 54" belly mower. $13,800BTW, I live in Alabama and I will be adding a loader next year. Are these prices in line with what you have seen? Also, are the NH "bell and whistles" worth these extra $900???Thanks in advance for your comments.John

The prices you have been quoted seem right in line with prices I was seeing a few months ago in Arizona when I was shopping. I ended up with a JD4100 with 54" belly mower and have no regrets. But I also looked at the TC21 and thought I would be equally happy with it. A special sale price and a nearby JD dealer influenced my decision to buy. I think you should drive both units and realize that you can't go wrong with either one. Both are excellent. Buy what feels best to you. ....

I paid $13,500 for the 4100 4wd hydro and DSCV so if you have the 4wd and DSCV you are getting a good deal. ....

When I got mine last year, the prices for the 4100 and the 21D were basically identical. I ended up getting the Boomer and have no regrets. The advantages and disadvantages I saw were as follows: The JD apparently had an axle problem (which I think has been addressed since then) that caused massive scuffing of the lawn. The JD has a better pedal layout if you plan on using differential braking, which I never do. On the other hand, I like the Boomer's Hydro pedals better because instead of moving your foot right or left to separate pedals to go forward or back, you can rock your foot forward or back to go in the desired direction. The Boomer came with folding ROPS - among other bells and whistles - which I REALLY like (low clearance parking shed). This is really handy as well when going under low tree branches and things like that. If you ever operate at night, the lights on the Boomer are great, I know many Kubota owners complain about weak lights...dunno about the JD. The JD loader takes about 2 minutes to take on/off and takes no tools, the Boomer takes about 4 minutes with a crescent wrench for two bolts. If you ever forsee the need for a backhoe, I don't believe the 4100 has that capability, whereas the TC21D does. That's about all I can tell ya about the hard comparisons. I think the power and capabilities of both of them are about equal. You just have to decide based on the small differences, and of course, the price. I like the control layouts, instruments, seat, and looks of the Boomer better myself. But that's a personal preference. ....

Bought our 4WD 4100HST with 410 loader, ballast box, rear weights, and 54" mower for $16k. Didn't look at NH due to the one and only dealer's location, but a friend owns a TC33 supersteer and it is an awesome machine. Loader/mower installation & removal on the 4100 can easily be completed in less than 5 minutes. So far, the only complaint I have on the 4100 itself is lack of folding ROPS. Otherwise it is an excellent machine and VERY capable for a 20hp unit. Naturally, it would be nice if it had more power, but like one of the other guys said. You'll never here anyone say "This tractor has too much power" regardless of the size in question. ....

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Did you guys have to pay a documentation fee of $200-300?? The NH dealer said that his price was complete + tax but he mentioned that the JD dealer would add this doc fee. IMHO, doc fees are profit adders.... Any thoughts??

Don't quote me on this one, but I do remember $100 dollar documentation fee because we financed it through JD. I also thought it was rediculous at the time but I think like buying most large expensive items, once you are at that point it is doubtful you will back out because of a $100 or $200 fee. And they know it!! ....

If it's not too late... you may want to consider buying the loader at the sametime as the tractor to save having to return it to the dealer later. As far as the D being worth the extra $. Yes! If later you added only half of the "Extras" you would pay more than you would for the D now. Some of the extras, sure you can live without, but... they sure do make Boomer life alot nicer. I love my 29D & don't know how I lived without it. Donald ....
